A 4-paragraph essay consists of an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusionThe introduction introduces the topic and presents a thesis statement, which is a one or two-sentence summary of the essay’s main argument or analysis. Each body paragraph then expands on one specific point from the thesis statement, providing supporting evidence and examples to develop the argument. The conclusion summarizes the main points made in the body paragraphs and rephrases the thesis statement to provide a sense of closure and emphasize the importance of the argument.

Paragraph 1: Introduction
Begin with a “hook” to capture the reader’s interest. Provide some general background information on the topic. Conclude the introduction with a clear, strong, and concise thesis statement that outlines the essay’s main argument or analysis. The thesis statement should contain the main idea and the supporting elements that will be discussed in the body paragraphs.

Paragraph 2: Body Paragraph 1

Start with a topic sentence that introduces the first main point from your thesis statement. Then, provide evidence, examples, or quotes to support this claim. Explain how the evidence supports your point and contributes to your overall argument.

Paragraph 3: Body Paragraph 2

Begin with a topic sentence that introduces the second main point from your thesis statement. Similar to the previous paragraph, support this claim with evidence, examples, or quotes. Interpret and explain this evidence, showing how it develops your argument and supports your thesis.

Paragraph 4: Conclusion
Summarize the main arguments from your two body paragraphs. Rephrase your thesis statement to show how your essay has proven it. Offer a final thought or insight and provide a sense of closure to the essay.
